On the eve of our first enterprise app and iPad app - CampTrail

After long and arduous months of struggle with 37signal APIs and late night and weekend effort by our development team, we are finally going to release the iPad client for basecamp - CampTrail tonight. Our CTO, Sridhar Nallani did a stellar job at designing a good architecture and keeping everyone motivated through tough times.

Back in Nov, 2010 when I started Faqden Labs in a MIT dorm room, I was almost convinced that it was ideas which make a company successful. After spending almost 10 months in the startup world, I can now say confidently what really separates a successful company from not so successful companies is pesistence, follow through and execution.

The journey of basecamp client for iPad started with Sridhar who comes from a deep technical background and hones the throne of being an expert on project management methodologies.  Convinced that iPad is the next big thing in enterprise; he knew iPad will have profound impact on how employees colloborate and do work in enteprises. He approached me with the idea of doing something related to project management on iPads. After spending couple of weeks exploring various ideas, we decided to start small and narrowed down on the basecamp client. Our market/competitor anaylyis tells us that the space is new and the competion was fairly minimal. One or 2 existing apps have very bad reviews. This was enough for us to pursue this space and went full throttle.

Couple of months later, here we are. We have just begun and we have ambitious plans for enterprise space. We do hope that we get valuable feedback from this app which will guide us to build path breaking enterprise applications in future.

  1. True dat!

Lots of new exciting improvements are coming up shortly to this app, but personally I already dont know how to live without the app - as much Basecamp we use for our startup here...
